CJTL Radio was Started in 2005, when American Missionary Frank Drown formed a committee of FIRST Nations Believer's and petitioned the CRTC for a radio license for Pickle Lake ON.
the original Committee included Several Members from NEFC including - David Kanakakeesic. Jimmy Keesic - Gary Quequish, Jerry Quequish, David Traintanger and Harvey Yesno. The license was awarded to NEFC, and land was acquired by Frank , a tower and studios were built and CJTL "The Light" went on the Air in October 2007 from its studios in Pickle Lake, and with a repeater also in thunder Bay. The Gospel was being heard and People began to be encouraged with the Hope of Christ through teaching and Music 24 /7 in Reserve communities like Mishgegogagamaon.
The programming reflects the values of First Nations Culture and weaves the Gospel into everyday real life for the people though out these firsts Nations communities.
Daily Programming includes Aboriginal Gospel and Music, teaching in Native Languages as well as English, and Contemporary Christian Music all through the night and when other time slots are not filled.
During the start of the Covid Crisis, CJTL was used to bring important information to remote communities and encouragement through the crisis by many First Nations Elders and pastors.
During most Summers CJTL is on the Road Broadcasting live from Gospel Jamborees and events, connecting these remote areas together, it's amazing that you can hear an event where one community is praying live on the air for a different community that is suffering. Its so good because , they hear the Gospel. but also they are reminded they are not alone, others care, and this so very important for these isolated regions.
In the Last few Years the Pickle Lake Property which was Purchased By Frank Drown and donated to NEFC has Been used as a Pastors training and teaching Center, there were plans to expand this summer adding some marriage and family work shops as well as counseling, but travel restrictions have postponed these programs. Instead were focusing on bringing the content to the people and the communities through CJTL radio.
